What is your organization’s mission?
To arm our youth with the right tools to help them find their voice, build confidence, and discover greatness that lies within.
Kidz Investing N Knowledge is a Nonprofit Organization that gives kids the tools to start sculpting the lives they want for themselves. We want every kid to know that they may not have much say in what they do with their lives at this age but here at Kid I.N.K they do. Every semester they get to choose what programs interest them and are challenged to be great.
What needs is your organization addressing in the community?
-Learning Gaps
-Promoting Fitness and Healthy Eating
-Financial Literacy
-Life Skills
-Community Service
-Access to technology
-Access to vocational classes and training for parents
-Safe & Engaging Environment to go after school
Who is your organization helping?
At promise youth ages 6-18 who are looking for a safe environment where they can thrive academically and improve their skills along with their peers. We take a group centered approach because we believe in being responsible for each one another. In our community we are experiencing a lot of gun violence due to who lives on what side of town and the kids are very aware of what has been transpiring.
The Kidz INK location is in the 1st Ward of Columbia. The 1st Ward is in the central north side of the city. With Columbia experiencing an increasing influx in their crime rate, which includes but not limited to gun related crimes, followed by homicidal deaths that are directly affecting all youth. Kidz INK is aware of the youth and family disparities which is a major factor that is stifling our community, with nearly 46% of youth receiving free and reduced lunch, according to Columbia Public Schools (pre Covid-19), and 16% of children living in poverty. We at Kidz INK have and intend on continuing our efforts to bridge the gap for those who are affected by their daily life struggles. When they are at Kidz INK they will benefit from the consistent structure, all-encompassing programming, and focus on excelling in their academics, building their confidence, and being uniquely them.
